From October 13th to 16th, 2023, the Hainan Open took place at the Danzhou Ancient Saltern Golf Resort. This year marked my third trip to Hainan. However, the tournament was held in the north of the island, near Haikou, this time. The conditions were very warm and humid, with quite strong winds throughout the week. Despite the challenging conditions and some jet lag, I got off to a good start in the tournament. With a score of 67 (-5), I positioned myself near the top of the leaderboard after Day 1. The second day also went nearly flawlessly, as I finished with another 67 strokes. The Hainan Open, along with the Grand Final, was the highest-paying tournament of the year. Heading into Day 3 in the leader flight, I was a bit more tense and cautious. There was a lot at stake, and a good result in this tournament could significantly improve my ranking. I ended Day 3 with a more restrained round of 70 (-2). However, given the modest results of others, I remained in contention for the top spot. I had the privilege of playing the final round in the leader flight as well, which always carries a special feeling. Day 4 was windy and challenging. Despite recording my "worst" round of the week (70 / -1), I managed to maintain my position and ultimately finished the Hainan Open in 2nd place. This result was crucial, and thanks to it, I made a significant leap in the Road to Mallorca Ranking, now sitting at 17th place with one tournament left to play. With a DP World Tour card within reach, I am immensely grateful for the support throughout the week, and please continue to keep your fingers crossed :-)
